Physiotherapy Department

The Physiotherapy Department at NICVD, established in 1977, has a long-standing history of providing essential support to patients through comprehensive physical therapy services. The department functions collaboratively with the Rehabilitation and Prevention Center, while also operating independently to cater to the broader needs of the hospital's patients.

Physiotherapists play a crucial role in preparing pre-operative patients, ensuring they understand exercises and techniques that can enhance their readiness for surgery. This preparation helps reduce anxiety and promote better surgical outcomes. Post-operatively, physiotherapists focus on alleviating pain and facilitating a quicker, smoother recovery process through targeted exercises and therapy routines.

Physiotherapy is a mandatory component of care for all patients in intensive care and surgical wards, with a typical duration of 5-8 days, depending on the length of their stay. This intervention helps improve mobility, prevent complications such as muscle atrophy or joint stiffness, and support overall recovery.

Patients across all other wards, including general and critical care units, receive physiotherapy services as needed, ensuring that each individual receives personalised support based on their specific health conditions. This proactive approach not only aids in pain management and functional recovery but also contributes to improved patient outcomes and overall well-being.
