National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases-NICVD proudly conducted its first Certification Ceremony of Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program. It was held on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 in Karachi. A total of 13 fellows were awarded certificates for successfully completing post-fellowship training in the sub-specialty of interventional cardiology. Speaker Sindh Assembly, Mr. Agha Siraj Khan Durrani was the honorable Chief Guest of the ceremony.
In his welcome address, Executive Director of NICVD, Professor Nadeem Qamar said that it gives him great pleasure to welcome all participants to the first Ceremony of Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases-NICVD. By the grace of Almighty Allah, we have achieved this milestone through the untiring efforts of our dedicated faculty members and trainees and we have gathered here today to celebrate our collective achievement.
He said that it is great pride and honour for NICVD to conduct its first Certification Ceremony of Interventional Cardiology fellowship Program. This program focuses at producing skilled doctors, equipped with the highest standards of leadership and management skills as well as ethical practices so that they are able to function as competent and compassionate specialists.
Professor Nadeem Qamar said that National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases-NICVD is one of the leading centers for Post-graduate Training in Adult Cardiology, Paediatric Cardiology, Anaesthesiology, and Cardiac Surgery and Post-fellowship Training in Interventional Cardiology, Electrophysiology and Cardio-thoracic Anaesthesiology. We also offer Post-graduate Diploma in Cardiology. It is a matter of great pride that 44 fellows cleared FCPS and 43 trainees cleared diploma in Cardiology during 2015-2017.
NICVD’s Executive Director added that for over half a century, the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases has tirelessly endeavored to excel in cardiovascular patient-care, training and research. With more than 300 highly qualified surgeons, doctors and trainees, we have provided superior services to our patients requiring emergency care, admission and consultation.
He said that today, we are seeing the culmination of this hard work and at this grand ceremony; our 13 fellows have received their certificates. It is a rewarding and proud day for the NICVD. We prepare our residents and fellows for future leadership in academic medicine as clinical specialists. NICVD is committed to the achievement and maintenance of excellence in medical education and clinical research for the benefit of humanity. He thanked Sindh Government for their endless support and further appreciated the efforts of NICVD team for their endless endeavours.
At this occasion, Professor Syed Nadeem Hassan Rizvi (Professor of Interventional Cardiology, NICVD) said that I find immense pride to celebrate NICVD’s first Certification Ceremony of Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program. It is the culmination of the combined efforts of our faculty, staff, parents and most of all our fellows. Our training program has an excellent history and track record of interventional cardiologists with excellent clinical and procedural skills in both coronary interventions.
He further added that NICVD has introduced innovative teaching methods in keeping with modern global trends to ensure that its students and faculty are fully equipped to face the challenges of a rapidly developing world. I would like to congratulate the fellows, their parents and the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases on this momentous occasion and wish them for success in future.
Congratulating the fellows and their parents, Honorable Chief Guest, Mr. Agha Siraj Khan Durrani (Speaker, Sindh Assembly) said that it is a matter of enormous pride and honour for NICVD to conduct its first Ceremony of Interventional Cardiology. I acknowledge the positive impact of systems and processes of NICVD’s Postgraduates program in the areas of healthcare and education not only in Sindh Province but also in all over Pakistan.
He added that National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases is taking important initiatives in order to keep up with these advancements by upgrading curricula, enhancing skills, improving teaching practices, fostering research and setting high standards in line with the international benchmarks, I would like to see the NICVD grow as a leading research institution and earn the highest ranking among national and international academic institutions. I wish NICVD every success in its future endeavours.
The Ceremony was attended by more than 500 health and non-clinical professionals from different institutions.
