APRIL 03, 2021 – NICVD OPENS ITS 30TH CENTRE IN TANDO ALLAHYAR

KARACHI: The National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in collaboration with the Sindh government has established its 30th centre at Tando Allahyar district headquarter hospital to treat patients with chest pain free of cost.

Pakistan Peoples Party’s MNA Zulfiqar Sattar Bachani told journalists after formally inaugurating the chest pain unit on Thursday that the centre was a “gift” for Tando Allahyar and its peripheries, which would be linked with NICVD Hyderabad, where all cardiac care facilities, including primary PCI, angioplasty, echocardiography, OPD, admission and other state-of-the-art facilities were available, said a handout.

He said that NICVD has introduced a new trend in heart care with the inauguration of chest pain units (CPUs) to serve the nation at the most easily accessible points. This service was available 24/7 throughout the year, he said.

NICVD executive director Prof Nadeem Qamar said in his message that CPUs were well-equipped to identify patients with an acute heart attack and resuscitate the patients who become unstable. CPUs were designed for providing preliminary emergency care to heart attack patients, he said, adding that after providing initial treatment, the patient was shifted immediately to tertiary care set-up.
